RIS support the University's academic community throughout the life cycle of research projects, from the initial research idea to applying for and securing funding, to assessing the impact of the research on the wider world. 

About the role

Over the next two years, the University will implement a new grant application and award costing system (Worktribe), move its finance system (Agresso) to the cloud, rewrite system integrations, and review its approach to reporting on research management data. RIS are looking for a hardworking individual with excellent interpersonal and project management skills to support these projects, lead on smaller system-related projects and coordinate daily running of the research information systems (Pure, Worktribe, parts of Agresso).

This post will directly contribute to the institutional capability to capture, store, report on and analyse the data about University's research to enable strategic decision making. You will be involved in identifying new ways of collecting and reporting data effectively, and improving and automating existing processes where possible. The role will be multifaceted, with multiple tasks and projects on the go. Your ability to organise and prioritise own workload will be crucial.

About us

This is a small team who look after RIS system development and improvement, data quality, and reporting on the data held in the systems. The team supports University's internal and external reporting, including reporting on funding outcomes to ResearchFish and the University's submission to Research Excellence Framework (REF). The team works closely with other colleagues within RIS and wider University (especially from the Digital, Data and Technology department, Library, Vice-Chancellor's Office, and research managers in the Faculties and School).

  • have excellent interpersonal and project management skills, with strong ability to prioritise workload
  • have a good understanding of systems and data, and with interest in process improvement
  • able to understand, translate and communicate complex processes and guidance to different audiences
  • be able to report, analyse and present data to different audiences

Further information

The post is offered on a full-time basis (36.5 hours per week) for a fixed-term period of 2 years.

The team follows a hybrid model of working, with a minimum of two days based on the University's Claverton Down campus.

About us

Research and Impact Services is responsible for advancing the University's international reputation for research and knowledge transfer by:

  • increasing the volume of externally funded research
  • improving grant application success rates
  • enhancing strategic and operational support to academic departments

Our department is the primary conduit for government, business, charity and other funders to access the research expertise and knowledge of the 腦瞳憫.

About the role

Over the next two years, the University will implement a new grant application and award costing system (Worktribe), managed through the University Research Management System (URMS) project. RIS are looking for a hardworking individual with excellent interpersonal skills to support the Research Funding team during his time.

You will work closely with the Pre-Award Development Officers, Pre-Award Support Officer, Pre-Award Manager and Head of Research Funding to support the effort to ensure that the outputs of the URMS project are realised within the agreed timescales. This will also require planning and participation in user acceptance testing for the new system.

You will also develop comprehensive knowledge of the University’s costing system and be able to confidently advise, support and guide colleagues across the University.

About you

This role requires excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills along with a good understanding of the research funding landscape for the higher education sector, and some familiarity with costing systems used to support funding applications. You will be educated to degree level or hold significant, relevant professional experience.

You will also have:

  • excellent attention to detail
  • self-confidence and the ability to stand your ground, remaining calm under pressure
  • good self-motivation and time-management

Further information

The post is offered on a part-time basis (21.9 hours per week) for a period of 12 months, starting in August 2025. We would welcome applications for secondment from existing staff.

Our team works both remotely and on campus, as part of a hybrid model (everyone is required to work on campus for some of their week - this is not a fully remote role). It is strongly preferred that you are available to work Wednesdays on campus to join team meetings and only exceptional circumstances may be considered around this.

In this role, you will play a key part in shaping and executing the University's research strategy. 

The 腦瞳憫 research is helping to change the world for the better. We work in partnership to help create a healthier, more sustainable and connected future for us all. Our Research and Impact Services (RIS) department supports activities across the research lifecycle from opportunity, application, award, project management, impact, knowledge exchange, reporting outcomes, commercialisation and everything in between. As the Deputy Director for RIS, you’ll be in a key leadership role within the department and right at the heart of enabling this work. 

About the role

The Deputy Director for Research Performance, Information and Insights will provide strategic leadership within Research & Impact Services (RIS) and across the 腦瞳憫. 

We are looking for an individual who is proactive and has substantial senior-level experience in a research-led institution. You should have strong team management skills, excellent knowledge of higher education research landscape, and a thorough understanding of the REF process. Your experience and interpersonal skills will enable you to influence and collaborate with diverse audiences.

You will have experience in meeting statutory reporting requirements and implementing effective information management systems. Your ability to understand and leverage data to support strategic priorities will be crucial.

Examples of activities that you will be involved in include leading the RIS management of the University Research Excellence Framework (REF) submission, managing evidence for performance, planning, and statutory reporting requirements, and overseeing the development and enhancement of research information provision. You will also be lead the monitoring and evaluation of research impact, as well as for the University's Knowledge Exchange portfolio.

You’ll have the chance to lead and motivate highly skilled teams, engage with key internal and external stakeholders, and enhance the University's research position and reputation.

This role is ideal for someone looking to use their skills and experience to take on a new challenge.

This role is offered on a full time (36.5 hours per week) permanent basis. 

The salary for this position is aligned to the Senior Staff pay scale. We anticipate this appointment to be between spine point 53 and spine point 60; £74,144 to £85,168 per annum.
