About the role

  • Innovative Research Design:
    – Deliver evaluation projects that span the entire university.
    – Utilise diverse research methods such as focus groups, interviews, and surveys to capture insights.
  • Project Delivery & Collaboration:
    – Support evaluation initiatives across various departments, ensuring a unified approach to evidence-based decision-making.
    – Work closely with academic teams and professional services to keep everyone in the loop.
  • Analysis & Publication:
    – Analyse your findings and support the write-up and publication of key results.
    – Turn complex data into clear, compelling insights that inform our strategic direction.

You should have:

  • a degree-level education (or equivalent) with a strong grasp of research and evaluation methodologies.
  • proven experience in designing and delivering research projects—even better if you’ve led focus groups or similar qualitative research.
  • proficiency in analysing qualitative and quantitative data (Excel, SPSS, NVivo – you know the drill).
  • excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate data into persuasive reports and presentations.
  • a proactive, collaborative approach with a creative streak that isn’t afraid to challenge the status quo.

About the role

In this pivotal role, you will lead the design, delivery, and management of research and evaluation projects across the student lifecycle – helping to ensure that students from all backgrounds can access higher education, succeed in their studies, and progress into meaningful employment. Your work will play a vital part in delivering the commitments set out in our Access and Participation Plan (APP), delivering research-based evaluation projects that create recommendations to improve student outcomes.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape strategy and collaborate with academic and professional services colleagues to drive positive, research-driven impact across the University.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead key evaluation projects aligned with our Access and Participation Plan, using qualitative and quantitative research methodologies while upholding high ethical standards.
  • Apply advanced data analysis to assess the impact of our widening participation initiatives, analysing complex datasets and generating actionable insights for continuous improvement.
  • Translate findings into action by developing clear, strategic recommendations and disseminating results through high-quality reports, presentations, and sector publications.
  • Collaborate across the University working closely with academic departments, student support services, and external partners – to foster a culture of evidence-based practice and stay at the forefront of sector developments.
  • Provide line management, line-managing an Access and Participation Impact Officer (Projects) and supporting colleagues’ professional development as part of our commitment to excellence in this field.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Education & expertise – Educated to degree level (or equivalent experience), with in-depth knowledge of access, participation and student success issues in higher education.
  • Research & evaluation experience – Proven experience designing and delivering robust research or evaluation projects, employing both qualitative and quantitative methods.
  • Analytical skills – Strong ability to analyse large and complex data sets, using evidence to identify trends and inform strategic decisions.
  • Communication skills – Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce clear reports and present impactful findings to both expert and non-expert audiences.
  • Stakeholder engagement – Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with stakeholders at all levels, both within the University and externally.
  • Project management – Exceptional organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads, manage multiple projects/deadlines, and take a proactive, solution-focused approach to challenges.

Experience in an educational environment or familiarity with sector bodies (such as TASO) would be an added advantage, but most importantly you will be enthusiastic about driving positive change and ensuring our access and participation efforts are backed by rigorous evidence.

This is an exciting opportunity to work as a Programmes & Partnerships Officer for the University’s 100% Online programmes, centrally managed through the Learning Partnerships Office (LPO). LPO manages partnerships, programmes and relationships with external partners, University Departments and Faculties/School and other stakeholders. 

We currently offer a hybrid working arrangement with the option of working from home for part of the week. 

Key responsibilities

  • Administrative and quality processes, including the tracking of student progress from enrolment to graduation and fee sponsorship processes.

The flexible and complex nature of the student journey will require great attention to detail and vigilance in following the progress and tracking of each student outside of the traditional model of a cohort and academic year based intake. 

  • Advising stakeholders (internal and external to the University) on processes and information that underpin the smooth running of the programmes and the partnerships
  • Data organisation, processing and reporting associated with the online programmes
  • Work with other team members, Faculties/School and Departments across the University to oversee all aspects of the student and academic administration associated with Online courses

You will ensure that services are efficient, effective and adapt to changing circumstances. This is a busy and varied role which requires you to communicate persuasively and tactfully with internal and external stakeholders and to ensure compliance with necessary regulations/contracts and adherence to frequent milestones in the academic year for data organisation and reporting. 

You will bring to the role your skills and enthusiasm for working with numbers and data, including some elements of finance.

About you

To succeed in this role, you will have: 

  • excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • excellent and accurate numerical skills, able to collate, manipulate and analyse data/numbers, with demonstrable proficiency in Excel.
  • the ability to assimilate complex and procedural information, regulations and guidelines, and provide accurate advice/report accordingly.
  • a proven track record of excellent organisational skills, adhering to tight deadlines, managing priorities and multi-tasking effectively.
  • the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a busy environment. 
  • the ability to learn new systems and procedures rapidly.

Experience of data presentation systems would be an advantage.
